When Food Isn’t Enough
Vitamins are best when they are consumed in their raw whole food form. We can get the majority of the vitamins and minerals needed for a healthy body when we eat the right foods. When we eat the proper foods we not only get the needed vitamins but we also get the fiber and macro and micronutrients that come in its most natural form. Vitamins can be hard for the body to absorb if not taken in food form and in a combination with the other vitamins that help them to be absorbed properly. There are a few vitamins that aren’t abundantly found in foods and hard to absorb and need to be taken as a supplement.
The Key Vitamins Most People Are Lacking
B-12
Nearly everyone is deficient in vitamin B12 today. Even if you get a blood test that shows your vitamin B12 levels are normal, that doesn’t mean it’s usable B12 that’s absorbing where it needs to in your body. Your central nervous system, liver, or other organs may still be severely deficient, and a deficiency of B12 sets the stage for all kinds of symptoms and conditions to develop or worsen. Lack of B12 is a very real deficiency with very real health consequences. The body relies on B12 for tens of thousands of daily functions.
An ideal B-12 supplement includes both methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin. This B-12 blend can help with neurological disorders and diseases, anxiety and panic, and the immune system. The right supplement is a better choice than B-12 injections. These shots do not contain the right kind of B-12 blend and have the potential to trigger an overreaction in a sensitive body. Here’s the B-12 supplement my family takes daily.
Zinc
Zinc can help protect you from many diseases. Maintaining healthy zinc levels can help shield you from pathogens and minimize future illness. Unfortunately, the more pollution we encounter, the more zinc we lose, and the fruits and vegetables we grow for food no longer contain this essential mineral. Avoid the many liquid zinc supplements that are loaded with citric acid, natural flavors, alcohol, and other toxic ingredients. Instead, search for a clean, high-quality liquid ionic ZINC like this one.
OMEGAS: EPA & DHA
Few nutrients have been studied as thoroughly as omega-3 fatty acids.
Omega-3s fight Depression and Anxiety-one of the most common mental disorders in the world. Omega-3s improve eye health and promote brain health during pregnancy and early life. It’s no coincidence that every baby formula is chuck full of it and promotes it’s crucial benefits. Getting enough omega-3s during pregnancy is associated with numerous benefits for your child, Omega-3s can reduce Symptoms of ADHD in children, and they improve risk factors for heart disease.
They also fight inflammation which is a natural response to infections and damage in your body. Long-term inflammation can contribute to almost every chronic Western illness, including heart disease and cancer. Omega-3 fatty acids help fight several autoimmune diseases, including type 1 diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease and psoriasis. Bottom line… if you only take one supplement, this should be your go-to!
Because our oceans are highly contaminated, consuming fish needs to be minimal. In fact pregnant women are advised to not consume fish because of the high levels of toxicity. Unfortunately this creates a problem for consuming the highly important vitamins found in fish. Other great ways to get the benefits of Omegas are in chia seeds, flax seeds/flax seed oil, walnuts, hemp seeds, beans, winter squash, leafy greens, cabbage, berries, mangoes, and honeydew, Spirulina (algae) and Atlantic sea vegetables such as dulse, kelp, and Nori.
Many omega-3 fish oil supplements don’t specify the exact levels of EPA and DHA that are contained in the fish oil, and that is a huge red flag. The standard for EPA/DHA levels in fish oil should be a minimum of 500 mg each, per serving. Always check the label to ensure that EPA/DHA levels are clearly listed. Look to get 1000mg-1500mg of combined total EPA and DHA. Also opt for a plant based omega to combat the high levels of mercury found in omegas extracted from fish. My Family uses THIS Omega daily. For your kiddos that can’t swallow pills yet, we love THIS Omega.
Turmeric
Turmeric is a natural wonder in the healing world and has been used as a powerful anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiseptic, and anti-depressant since ancient times. The main component in turmeric, curcumin, has phenomenal anti-cancer properties and has been known to help to inhibit prostate, skin, colon, mouth, esophageal, lung, stomach, pancreatic, liver, and breast cancer.
Turmeric is also a known blood purifier and helps to soothe respiratory ailments, improve liver function, support the circulatory system, regulate menstrual cycles, prevent cognitive diseases such as Alzheimer’s, and heal gastrointestinal disorders. Turmeric significantly decreases inflammation that is attributed to arthritis and other auto-immune disorders such as lupus, irritable bowel syndrome, fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue syndrome.
Turmeric also helps the body to digest proteins and fats as well as to regulate blood sugar for diabetics. It’s antioxidant properties have beneficial anti-aging effects and its anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, anti-microbial properties aids in healing skin wounds and abrasions as well as inflammatory skin irritations such as psoriasis and eczema.
Supplementing with turmeric or adding it to your diet will provide benefit for your whole body and is one of the best things you can do for prevention, repair, and longevity. Here’s the TURMERIC my family takes daily. I added Turmeric, this 4th supplement, because it’s one extra our family takes. Alzheimer’s disease is very prevalent in our family. We also are supper active and go pretty hard each day. This is a great way to repair and replenish so that our bodies aren’t in a continual spasmodic state, causing degeneration.
